The people of Taiwan are for the most part very friendly although somewhat reserved. They are not wary of foreigners in the least, and will often go out of their way to be courteous.
The people of Taiwan are very cosmopolitan probably due to the number of people who have been overseas in the past decade. Before the borders were relaxed in 1987, few people had the opportunity to go abroad and be exposed to the outside world. Prior to 1987, Taiwanese exhibited an industriousness that has gradually disappeared. Before that time, every manager wanted his own company.
