How to get there: about 700m. south from Exit 6 of the Dongguk University station on Orange 3 Line.

With Mt. Namsan as backdrop, NTK has been the cradle of the performing arts in Korea for over four decades. Professional musicians provide open-air cultural performances of classical, pop, and crossover pieces.

Museums

The National Museum of Korea
Location: in the Kyongbok Palace in downtown Kwanghwamun street

Some 7,500 historic items are displayed in 25 rooms that used to be the government offices before they were renovated into the museum in 1986.

National Folk Museum
Location: within the Kyongbok Palace in the downtown Kwanghwamun street. A 10-min. ride from the Kyongbokgung-yok or Anguk-yok on the subway Orange Line 3.

Some 4,300 items are displayed—of the 20,000 total--in 18 rooms, featuring the way Koreans lived in prehistoric times and in the ancient Kimdong period.

The War Memorial
Location: near the U.S. Army in Itaewon-dong. Located in former army headquarters building. A 10- to 20-min. ride from downtown Seoul at the City Hall or Kwanghwamoon, 30-min. walk from Samgakji-yok on the Subway Line.

Statues of some 50 war heroes in the Korean War and ancient battles stand at the entrance hall, leading to rooms featuring major battle scenes and materials and weapons by age. There is an outdoor display of the arsenals open around the clock.
