Malaysia

Comprising both Peninsular Malaysia and the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia is surrounded by Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and of course, Singapore. Because of its unique location, the Malaysian Peninsula has evolved a multi-cultural character that blends tradition and progress.

Johor Bahru
A bustling city along the lines of Singapore, Johor Bahru has somehow managed to retain the charm of a Malaysian kampong of old. Night bazaars and sidewalk vendors are commonplace, and the city is a bargain hunter's dream. Here, you can find food--especially seafood--of outstanding quality and good value. Another nice thing about Johor Bahru is that it's just across the Causeway from Singapore.

Desaru
Eager holidaymakers will love Desaru or the 'Village of the Casuarinas'--25 km. of sandy beach fringed by casuarina trees, and offering a host of sea sport facilities.

Malacca
Malacca boasts a rich heritage going back six centuries, courtesy of Portuguese, Dutch, and English settlers. Malacca is synonymous with Peranakan or Straits-born Chinese culture.

Kuala Lumpur
The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is the youngest of Southeast Asia's booming national hubs with a vibrancy that is almost infectious. By day, Kuala Lumpur is energetic, by night it is entertaining. Cigar bars are located next to karaoke clubs, fine dining restaurants close to fun-filled pubs, movie theaters, and discos.

Genting Highlands
Situated 2,000 meters above sea level is Genting Highlands. The site of Malaysia's only casino, Genting Highlands also offers a theme park with games and high-tech adventure rides, an 18-hole golf course (the Awana) and a huge man-made lake. The area is also famous for its endless expanse of jungle and the rows upon rows of tea and fruit plantations.

Langkawi
Stunning views of palm-fringed beaches, tranquil waters, and offshore islands are just some of the many attractions of Pulau Langkawi, the largest of a 104-island archipelago off the northwest coast of the Peninsula. Be charmed by the traditional Keday-styled houses featuring thatched roofs and stilts designed to avoid floods and wildlife.

Penang
One of Malaysia's best known tourist destinations is Penang, renowned for its beach resorts and its vibrant capital, Georgetown. Penang is home to historic streetscapes, bazaars, and unique cuisine. Look out especially for famous dishes such as ‘Penang Kway Teow' and ‘Laksa'.

Tioman
An idyllic island off the eastern coast of Malaysia, Tioman offers a five-star hotel and golf resort, the Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort, as well as a range of chalets and thatched hut accommodation. Tioman is a great diving spot and is often the first name to crop up among those looking for a weekend getaway.
