The People

Malaysia's central location between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea has made the country a traditional meeting point for traders and travelers, resulting in a multiracial population of about 20 million. About 60% of Malaysians are ethnic Malays, 35% are ethnic Chinese and the remaining are ethnic Indians and other minor groups. This has resulted in a colorful culture with varied festivals and celebrations held throughout the year. While Bahasa Malaysia is the national language and several Chinese dialects are also spoken, English is widely used in business.   more
