Quick Touch-Ups After a Flight
If your life consists of hopping from plane to plane and chasing time zones, you need to master the art of retouching your makeup in a flash. Here are some neat tricks:
- If you know you'll be heading off to a meeting after that plane ride, keep your makeup simple so it's not difficult to touch up after the flight.
- Remember that eye makeup usually takes the longest to do, so before flying do the complete works -- eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara -- at home and simply retouch on the plane. However, if it's a really long flight, skip the eye makeup and do it once you're near your destination. This way you avoid getting raccoon eyes from running mascara.
- If you've opted to do your makeup at home, it's not necessary to wash your face and start your makeup from scratch when you're near your destination. Instead, pat your face with moist towelettes to remove blotches of concealer, liner or powder. Wipe off with a tissue all remaining lip color. If you have oily skin, use an oil-blotting paper to wipe your T-zone area (forehead, nose and chin).
- No need to apply foundation all over again. Simply retouch by using pressed powder on your face to even out the complexion and hide the blemishes.
- Apply blush. Smile to find the apples of your cheeks so you know where to sweep the color. From the apples of your cheeks, move towards the hairline. Blend well. Add a hint of color on the parts where you normally tan or flush after exercise, such as your forehead and nose.
- Moisturize lips with a lip balm or gloss before using lipstick. For longer lasting lipstick, you can use a lip liner, which prevents the lipstick from bleeding. However, line lips after applying lipstick, not before. This way you prevent leaving an ugly line after all the lipstick color has worn off.
- Static air in the plane can leave your hair frizzy and dry. To combat frizz, spritz mineral water on your hair so you can comb out the static. Or better yet, invest in a small bottle of leave-on conditioner or detangler spray to keep your tresses slick and shiny even after sleeping on the plane. If you have long hair, a ponytail holder will be handy so you can simply tie your hair back neatly. If you want to restore your hair's volume you can make do with some styling cream and a roller brush, as you can't lug around aerosol canisters of hair spray or styling mousse in the plane.
- For a final touch, spritz mineral water or a liquid moisturizing spray to keep your face hydrated and fresh.
